Food and its preparation have always played a key and important role in the lives of human beings. Apart from being vital to their physical survival, food offers a sensory and emotional experience to those who cook it and to those who eat it. This stimulating exhibition focuses on the kitchen in Jewish houses in Iraq in the early decades of the 20th century, with a spotlight on both its appearance and cooking traditions: where the kitchen was located in the traditional Jewish house, what made it distinct, what kind of family dynamic evolved around the kitchen, and how that kitchen has been preserved today, outside Iraq.
